GEOLOGICAL LANDMARKS OF UKRAINE. IVANO-FRANKIVSK REGION.

External Carpathians, Skyboviy Nappe

Nadvirna area, centre of Dora village. Right gullied slope of Prut River

48° 29′ N lat.. 24° 36′ E long.

Tectonic, stratigraphic.

The section comprises fine-rhythmic two-component flysch, flat-laying at this place. The flysch is complicated by classic flexure with vertical component of 15-20 m and unusual for Carpathians southwestern vergence. In 350 m up the stream in the same bank along distance of 200 m the rocks are folded into typical fan-shaped folds with limb range up to 5-8 m which in turn are complicated by low-altitude (0,2-0,4 m) faults. There are gullied right bank of Prut River and base of IV over-bed terrace along the distance of 250 m.

The object comprises typical section of Upper Cretaceous — Lower Paleocene flysch (Striyska Suite, 60-75 Ma) which make the front portion of Orivskiy Nappe of the Skyboviy Thrust and classical flexure example. This is the object of geological excursions of Carpathian-Balkanian Geological Association.

Ecological conditions are suitable. V

Access by l-class motor-car road then 300 m by pass walk along left bank from where opens nice perspective of the outcrop. Direct outcrop access is impossible since the river course cut the rocky bank.

Legally the object as geological landmark is not defined yet. It is suggested to give the status of regional-rank landmark.
