Mukachevo area, south-western outskirt of Mukachevo city. Castle Palanok

Magmatic, geomorphologic.
Mukachivskyi Castle is located on the top of Palanok Mountain (167 m) which rises above accumulative plain. The mountain comprises erosion remnant of subvolcanic body (Palanok volcanic dome) and is composed of erosion-resistant Late Sarmatian-Pannonian andesite-dacites which are exposed in the castle’s basement and sometimes on the bushy slopes. Some rock exposures up to 2 m in size are found at the mountain top.
Impressive and restored ancient Mukachivskyi Castle and historical museum inside attract numerous tourists, history and nature fanciers from Ukraine and abroad. Ecological conditions are suitable. Fairly accessible by motor-car.
Legally the object as geological landmark is not defined yet.
It is suggested to give the status of geological regional-rank landmark.
