Waterfall. Square 1,5 hectares

National Park “Manyavskiy Waterfall”

Geomorphologic, stratigraphic.

The waterfall is confined to the Eocene flysch rocks of Skyboviy Nappe (Vygodska Suite, 40 Ma) composed of fine-rhythmic intercalation of silicified platy limestones and aleurolites which are flat-laying at 5-8° dipping to south-west. Waterfall height is about 16 m. Manyava River valley along the distance of 200 m just before the waterfall has canyon-like shape with wall height up to 20 m. Downstream this canyon the river courses over country rocks composed of fine-rhythmic greenish-grey flysch of Manyavska Suite. There occur several benches up to 2 m high. Further by the river stream there exposes sequence of finest-rhythmic parti-colored flysch (Lower Eocene) and then in right bank along distance of 5 m there occurs a breaking zone composed of black brecciated sandstones with slicing mirrors and calcite vein-lets. This is the zone of nappe over-thrusting.

This is the only in Carpathians true waterfall, the wonderful landscape decoration and the object of tourist routes.

Ecological conditions are suitable.

Access by motor-car road to north-western outskirt of Manyava village then 2.5 km by dirt road walk.

Legally the object is defined as part of National Park “Manyava Waterfall”. It is suggested to give the status of geological state-rank landmark.
